Feeder School Alignment Process

The Plano ISD Board of Trustees has announced December 1 and 2 as dates to gather additional public input regarding the district's feeder alignment process. The board is scheduled to make a formal vote on this issue on Tuesday, December 15, at the regularly scheduled board meeting. To accommodate the most people, the board meeting will be hosted at the Plano ISD Sockwell Center located at 6301 Chapel Hill, Plano, Texas, 75093.

Before the vote on December 15, the Board of Trustees will host these two additional public meetings to present the proposed plan to the community and seek input. The first meeting on December 1 will be presented in English. The presentation on December 2 will be in Spanish. The community is invited to attend either of these meetings.

  • Tuesday, December 1:  Plano ISD Sockwell Center, 6301 Chapel Hill, Plano, Texas, 75093, 7 PM – English language presentation.
  • Wednesday, December 2: Bowman Middle School, 2501 Jupiter Road, Plano, Texas, 75074, 7 PM – Spanish language presentation.

A description of the feeder alignment choice that the board is considering can be viewed here. Also available are the board subcommittee meeting notes, and the November 17 work session board presentation and staff presentation.

Subject: West Creek Estates neighborhood will have to change Senior High Schools if Option 3 is passed
Date: Tue, 1 Dec 2009 10:55:01 -0600

Hey guys,

This is some information that probably should be passed along to the neighborhood since it will be one of the neighborhoods that will change schools.

The Eastside is going to protest the realignment of schools because it leaves Plano East with a little over half of the amount of kids it has now.  They will not be able to have any strong programs such as athletics and music.  This will also cause them to loose the quality of coaches/teachers/directors that they have.  The Plano East campus is a really nice campus. (much nicer then the Plano campus is which is where this neighbor hood's kids will get moved to.)  They are building a new big science building at Plano East.  Our tax dollars will be wasted if this campus is not fully utilized.  Plus it will crowd Plano and Plano West schools unnecessarily. Please email the board requesting that they “BALANCE the ENROLLMENT” the board members e-mail addresses are as follows:

lloyd.jenkins@pisd.edu; brad.shanklin@pisd.edu; missy.bender@pisd.edu; marilyn.hinton@pisd.edu; marybeth.king@pisd.edu; john.muns@pisd.eduduncan.webb@pisd.edu; doug.otto@pisd.edu.

The realignment enrollment would be

Plano West 3,388

Plano Senior 3,067

Plano East 1,800
There is a critical public meeting on Dec 1st and the board will vote on December 15th. Option 3 would make us the smallest senior high in Plano and would significantly impact our athletic programs.

Mrs. McDonald asked us to email the board requesting that they “BALANCE the ENROLLMENT” of the 3 senior high schools. I attached an email I received from the Band Booster Club including the board members e-mail addresses.

This plan will go into affect in August 2011 – just two school years from now.

Hello everyone!
Just wanted to share some news about the current realignment process that is going on.  I really had not been following it too closely until I got information showing how Option 3 will make PESH the smallest senior high.  I have attached several different documents.  The fine arts people have really done a lot of research on this topic.  I went to a meeting last night at PESH and the notes from that meeting are on planoeastband.com.  I highly recommend  you read all this information!!!  We want East to stay competitive!!!  The meeting tonight will start at 7.  It will be at the Sockwell Center.  They will hand out  1 minute speaker cards from 6:30-7:30.  They are asking that East supporters wear spirit wear to support East or black if  you dont have any East spirit wear.

Dear Parents and Former PESH Parents,

IF you haven't been following the proposed realignments of the school boundaries for PISD, you are in for a shock regarding Plano East.  Attached is the Option 3 Realignment Plan that was presented just this week that that includes a revised feeder plan and choice academy.  Some of the "lowlights" are:

  • Bowman becoming a Clark feeder school;
  • Clark and Vines would feed Plano Senior High
  • Jasper and Shepton would feed Plano West
  • Williams would become a magnet school with grades 9-12.
  • McMillian would be the only feeder for Plano East.
Armstrong, Murphy and Otto would feed McMillan.

    Projected student enrollments would be:

    Plano West 3,388

    Plano Senior 3,067

    Plano East 1,800

As you can see, all programs at Plano East Senior High - not just Fine Arts and Athletics - would be greatly affected by this plan.  This is a link to the realignment information page from the Plano ISD website.
    http://www.pisd.edu/feeder.realignment.committee/FeederAlign.html

We encourage each of you to contact the PISD school board and expresss your opinion regarding this newest plan and hopefully tell the school board that this plan is unacceptable and will greatly harm Plano East, its students, and its staff.  It is our understanding that the committee who was holding the hearings earlier this month did not draft this plan, that it was the Board who drafted this "Option 3" plan.  Your school board members need to be contacted via email or in writing, and can be reached at the following addresses:

TheSchool Board will present it's final decision on December 15, 2010, so time is of the essence.  A copy of  the plan is attached for your review.

Thank you.
